Pearl Craigie letters, 1857-1911.

The collection contains 82 letters, two portraits from magazines, newspaper interview, and an obituary for Pearl Craigie. She wrote to Edward Rose, dramatist and critic, her brother "Tip" (Nelson Mortimer Richards), publisher T. Fisher Unwin, Mrs. [Beatrice May] Allhusen, and others. She discusses her plays, novels, writing style particularly with her play The Bishop's move, her Roman Catholicism, Mrs. Allhusen's writing, and reviews of her work. She complains about the business part of writing, the dearth of quality plays in America, and her mother's (Laura Arnold Richards) nagging. She received letters from Emma Parker with a critique of her novel, The School for saints; from D.W. Whitaker quoting the actor George Alexander's speech praising her play, The Ambassadors; a letter of thanks for sending her book, Imperial India, to the King of England; and some personal notes. The collection includes condolence letters on her death. She received letters from Olga Nethersole, 1902, while she was on tour; from W. Chapman Huston, 1904, asking her to chair a Playwrights Society; from Lady Dorothy Nevill, n.d.; eighteen letters from Lady Mary Curzon discussing family and friends; from E.C. Harcourt, Professor T. Volprignano, and Lady Marlborough. Also includes letters from Lord Curzon to Craigie's father, Morgan Richards.
